Yay Barcelona!
I actually drew this a few weeks ago and am just now posting it.
Pirate!Barcelona from the 1490's-early 1500's. In 1492, Columbus stumbled upon the "New World" and so, deciding prospects were better on the other side of the Atlantic, the king and queen of the brand new Kingdom of Spain decided to move the maritime capital from Barcelona to Valencia because Valencia had better access to the ocean. The Catalans were not happy about this because their economy went way down so they started resorting to piracy.
Barcelona had previously been one of the most important ports on the Mediterranean and is thought to have been the capital of the Aragonese Empire (union of Aragon and Catalonia which encompassed Andorra, parts of southern France, Valencia, the Balearic Islands, and Southern Italy).
